Contemporary performance by Dhurii company

Toolbox is a series of courses by Dhurii that aim to empower you with tools of dance, performance, choreography, research, production and management. Toolbox one is a course on contemporary dance and it’s first edition was delivered early in 2018 (see details here) .

Toolbox 1.1, 2019 edition is the second season of the Contemporary intensive certification course at Dhurii. The 3-month program furnishes dancers with the required skill sets of various contemporary techniques, movement vocabulary, strength and body conditioning classes. The panel of teachers have been hand-picked from across the country for their expertise and teaching methodology. Toolbox was conceived with the intent to foster original movement and develop choreographic aptitude in dancers and movers. This course is open to beginners in Contemporary as well as those who wish to continue with their training in the form.

Tool Box is designed to work with the mind of the body. Over the course of 3 months, the movement practitioners are bombarded by a discipline of training. With regular and continuous learning, the body and mind of beat become familiar tunes to the body and mind of the dancer. For three days a week every week, the students get exposed to classroom exercises and notes on technique, memory and alignment. Body conditioning in the form of ballet and yoga are introduced once a week. This acts as a complement to the ongoing contemporary course.

Classes run in the frequency of both weekday mornings and weekend evenings. This is an option provided for the sake of convenience. In this way, whether you are a working professional or a student, the flexible schedule allows you the freedom to pick your slot. Teachers begin to introduce choreography around the second month into the course. Students then get the opportunity to put the tools of trade into functional use. Techniques and exercises are revisited, form and memory are honed and the focus shifts to performance and presentation.

Towards the end of the second month and beginning of the third, choreographic pieces begin to take on shape and form.Students find themselves on a more firm footing with regard to technique, style and rhythm. One is able to assess the changes that have taken place in the body and mind over the Tool Box training period which includes a better understanding of movement. The course also lays emphasis on attendance and is authorized to withhold the certificates of students who do not possess the required quota of classes to their credit. This is mentioned at the very start of Tool Box during the induction process and only reinforces the importance of staying on course. The panel of teachers assigned for Tool Box are warm, friendly and approachable and readily welcome questions and discussions on various topics.

Not only does the Tool Box series deliver on the education of technique and form but also aids in personal development and overall growth of the individual through improved confidence and better decision-making skills.
